I have a domain. The company I consult with wants to buy it
I will still be sent email on my existing email account probably for the rest of the year
The buying company says they will forward my email that will still come to my old domain
I don’t want them to be able to see my email
Not sure how to proceed

If it goes through a server they own and control, they can, in theory, see it.

The only way is inform everybody and make sure they email to your new email address before you sell the domain

Of course in theory they can setup auto forwarding rules, but you never know if they will take a peek.

I also worry that any redirect or autoreply whether you delete the account or not will preserve in some form incoming messages. They might not have reason to pry into those messages but it would be a real issue for security applications.

Thanks. That’s what I thought

this might be be the most practical to stop prying eyes

Going back a bit....

I am curious: why does the company (your client ?) want to purchase what apparently is your consulting domain name?

Versus, for example, using their own company name?

One way or another, you will always be somehow associated with that domain name and any future use may come back on you.

Do not (full disclosure) really know the details, etc. but I would be very cautious. Maybe even seek legal advice before proceeding...

The email questions and circumstances making it all the more concerning.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
