[SOLVED] Email from Microsoft or not?

Hi, We keep getting that email, There is no email address to show, so I can't see what email it's coming from.
We sent it to Junk and to Phishing, but it keeps coming back again and again,
I think it might be from Microsoft as we have a subscription.
I have not opened the attachment of course.
Please advise. Thanks.

Viewing the email source I can see this (among other things)

I installed windows 7 on formatted HD on an old Samsung R530 laptop and opened the attachment. By the look of it, the offender is trying to steal the password. See attached.

I have a problem with that laptop but I started new thread to discuss

Question - Samsung R530 turns off in stress test

CPU-Z's CPU stress test turns laptop off instantly. It's Samsung R530 Temperatures on cores are maximum 48 degrees. Is it CPU or motherboard problem? I cleaned the laptop and put new paste as well. Please avise.

Hopefully you didn't do this while connected to your network (in any way) as there could be a hidden payload that could propagate to other machines on the network.

And I will add the suggestion to also revamp your email rules.

Only allow emails into the inbox that are from senders who are in your address book. However, you can set up all sorts of filters/rules as necessary.

Send all other emails to a folder of your choice where you can later scan through those emails and ensure that no valid emails got filtered out.

Move those valid emails to the inbox and, if you chose, add the senders to your address book.

Then you can delete the rest of the emails without even opening them.

Or flag for future review.

I still need to learn how best to use our email service, I'm not so good with software. I'm much better with hardware.

We don't have a network setup only a router. we communicate via Whats App.

I thought a Virgin router would have a firewall?

Firewall between you and the outside world.
Your internal systems would be behind that firewall.

It is to prevent attacks and unauthorized traffic from the outside world.

It does not prevent any traffic between systems inside your network.


Like the front door on your house.
Locked, it prevents random people from getting in.
It does not prevent people that are already inside from going room to room.

I connected to the Internet with a formatted laptop and read that dodgy email, and opened the attachment
Took some photos with my mobile phone and formatted the laptop again. What risks am I facing now?
All other PS's were off at the time.
