I have installed Nero v6.3 on a Win XP Pro SP2 system. If I right click on
the CD/DVD drive letter and select the Recording tab on Preferences there is
a check box for "Enable CD Recording on the Drive". It is currently
checked. What does this do? Do I need to uncheck it wo that to have Nero,
rather than Windows, do the recording?

That is for the XP native burning software if you are using Nero it doesn't
matter weather that is checked or not,Nero will still burn, leaving it checked
will also allow the XP software to burn if you wish.

Thanks for the info. As a follow-up:
How do I know whether I am using Windows native CD burning software? If I
simply drag files to the CD drive letter in Windows Explorer am I using Nero
or Windows?

If you go to the Nero website you'll see that Nero is now updated to
v6.6.0.8 and you can also download INCD UDF packet writing as part of the
package which allows you to use CDRWs like floppies. FYI the help files
aren't attached for most modules, you need to download the appropriate
language pack for that.
This is just an FYI.
