Enable my room for networking

I spoke to a Cox Communications representative and he told me that if I wanted to set up my modem in my room, as opposed to the living room, the coax cable in my room would have to be "enabled for internet use." He said it would be $60 for a Cox tech to come out our I could look online for an electrician. I was wondering if there was just a way I could do it myself. Any help or advice world be appreciated. Thanks

how is the modem connected in the living room? Does it have a separate cable from the one that goes to the TV/Cablebox or is it split?

It's on a splitter that goes to the cable box as well

Have you tried to connect the modem to the cable outlet in the other room?

If the outlet is active, I would expect it to work.

Otherwise, does the cable come into your home to a distribution point where all the cables go to?

Yeah, I tried. I didn't get a signal. And the line fires cone in through my wall.
