I was hoping I could set up this Access Point without any hitches, but I could not even accomplish the first step. I have the AP plugged into the ethernet port on my iMac (2.7 GHz i5, El Capitan), and I used System Preferences' Network panel to assign a fixed IP to my iMac. (...Tried a couple...definitely outside the DHCP allocation range.) The iMac is connected to my U-verse provided Arris NVG599 gateway by wifi. The AP appears to be properly connected; its ethernet, 2.4G, and 5G indicator lights all are on.
However, when I type 192.168.1.1 into my browser, I fail to get a connection with the AP. I only eventually get a time-out.
Is there something obvious I am missing? I'm planning to call EnGenius for help Monday but would love to get past this roadblock this weekend if possible.
Thanks, Jayson

Hi. The AP is running off its own power supply brick. Good idea to turn off the iMac wifi to be sure there's no confusion, but unfortunately there is no change in the situation. I'm still unable to reach anything at 192.168.1.1. Puzzling! Thanks for your suggestion.

I had performed the factory reset, to no avail. Good idea to try a different cable. I substituted one that I know works and still got no response.

I also went through this very same process with a Windows 10 laptop and was unable to connect with the AP that way, too.

I'll be calling EnGenius tomorrow morning. Thanks for your help.

I solved my problem by simply connecting my EAP1200H to my U-verse gateway (modem/router/WAP) instead of directly to my computer. When I did that I was immediately able to reach the AP's software, and the rest of the set up went smoothly.

Not having a lot of knowledge about networking, I originally had decided to follow instructions literally, and the only connection instructions in both the Quick Guide that came with the device and the full user's manual at EnGenius' website were to connect the AP to the ethernet port of my computer. I accepted that at face value, figuring that I didn't need an internet connection to configure the AP, but I guess I was wrong about that.

EnGenius' instructions did include a subparagraph relating to "if your PC is already on a network...", and that had to do with assigning a fixed IP address to it if that was the case. The instructions didn't say anything about a different physical connection being required in that case, but I guess if you're more conversant with networking than I, that probably would be obvious.

Anyway, the AP is up and running, and I look forward to several or more years of good service out of it.

That implies that the default is DHCP rather than a fixed IP address as the documentation would imply. Hmm....
