Hello Tom's Hardware!

I recently got into the world of building PCs, and haven't looked back, but I think its about time I upgraded my gaming PC. It runs some things fine, but really struggles with Assassin's Creed, Metro Last Light etc. I'm looking to spend somewhere in the region of £400-500 altogether, and I was wondering if you guys might be able to give me some suggestions as to how I can maximise my upgrade for my money.

I'm looking to upgrade within the next month or so, if that helps and I'm based in the UK.

Here's what I've currently got inside:

Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 MicroATX
CPU: AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz
PSU: SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold"
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X Vapor-X OC 2048MB
RAM: Corsair Value 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Storage: 500GB HDD & 250GB SSD

I tried to upgrade before, getting a Radeon R9 290 graphics card, but I found that this actually worsened performance (I imagine I was missing something crucially obvious here!)

Any suggestions would be great- thanks guys!

When you bought your 290 you probably didn't uninstall previous drivers and didn't install new ones.

My suggestion would be either buy again/use the 290, properly install drivers, and upgrade your CPU to an 8320 or 8350. I have the 8320 and love it :)

Also I'd suggest getting a 600W PSU for the new 290, from Corsair, XFX, Seasonic etc. That SuperFlower sounds a bit dodgy.
