Entry level graphic card

i am looking for an entry level gpu which can give good fps on this resolution 1280 * 1024 or 1440 * 990

my options are

asus ati 5670 1gb ddr5

gigabyte gts 450 1gb ddr5

cant buy gtx 460 or 6850 bcz i have to buy psu also

my specs are core i5 2500k,intel dh67cl,4gb ddr3 1333mzh ram,cooler master elite 370 case

suggest me card or eqaul range other card plz

what psu you have? if it's 300w+, get a 6770, if it's ~300w, get a 6670

for a 6770 you'd need a good, quality built psu from a reputed brand...not borderline 300W or a lil more.

for 6770 - 450W psu at least
for 6850 500W~ +

IF you get the GTX 460/HD6850 than you have an opportunity to get a bigger monitor and wouldn't need to go through the hassle of changing PSU+GPU and monitor in ONE go.

I'd side with a GTX460/HD 6850 - ONLY cos you're going to buy a 550W psu..might i ask what brand/make of PSU?

For a HD 6770 I'd think you would need around 400 Watts of power, HD 6850 - 450 watts, and a HD 6870 needs a quality 450W or 500W PSU.

The Nvidia side, a GTS 450, I would recommend a 450W PSU, GTX 460 - 500W, and GTX 560 - A quality 500W.

For PSU's I recommend XFX,Seasonic,Corsair,Antec and BeQuiet if you are in the UK/EU.

EDIT @ Lutifij. An Antec EartWatts 380D or Xigmatek NRP-PC402 can easily power a HD 6770.

Likewise a Corsiar CX430 V1/V2, AE430D or BeQuiet 430W Pure Power BQT L7 can easily power a HD 6850.

An XFX 450W Core Ediiton or CM GX-450 will run a HD 6870.

You can get away by prescribing the bare minimum in wattage just to cater to what the OP wants to hear.

there's one thing most people who have also read the stickies in the PSU section - will learn that - In all honesty, prescribing something that'd last the OP a good while and leave room for future proofing him/her-self is the best option.

If you head over to johnnyguru's review of the xfx, its a rebadged seasonic psu - which is still fine

i have seen 6790 its just little more then 6770 in price i am going for it and suply i have seen antec 500watt continous power i will be fine or cooler master gx 550watt that is 80+

and 1 thing the games like mafia 2 batman needs physx so ati cant support it is this necessary to have physx in card?
or sholud i switch to nvidia to get physx
nvidia is expensive then ati and has less range of cards ati has a good range of cards in evry price as far i have seen in pakistani market and nvidia is popular here so going for ati for 1st time so i would be good with ati ????

Max power draw from a single HD 6870 is 298W?

Its going to be hard to add enough Fans/HDD's to pull another 100W of power.

you'll be good with any brand you choose - just remember that the cards you choose is the same from both camps - but the only trick nvidia have up their sleeves is physx, that too is only available in some games not all.

Don't go for the 6790, the numbering might confuse you but if you read through reviews, you'll realize that its a barts chip on a very bad diet. i.e: its heavily crippled since it these were essentially barts chips with defective cores.

The only thing they(the 6790's) have in common with 68xx chips is the power draw - but due to the defective cores cut off - they perform like a 5770/6770

one more thing a 6770 is nothing but a 5770 with an overclock - say 80Mhz more and put with a 6xxx badge.

either go 6770 or if its available a GTX 550Ti

What?

The HD 6790 performs slightly better than the GTX 550 Ti, not the HD 6770, it uses the same die as the HD 6870, with disabled parts, much like the GTX 465 and GTX 475, which is why it draws more power than the HD 6850.

It goes GTX 460 1Gb = HD 6850 > GTX 460 768mb > HD 6790 >/= GTX 550 Ti > HD 6770 = HD 5770 > GTS 450.

Between the HD 6790 and GTX 550 Ti, both offer good performance, the HD 6790 being slightly better, but they trade blows, just get whatever is cheaper.

hmmm probably thas the way to go - cheaper card FTW.

xfx is good but i know for a fact that the coolers on them HIS are awesome - good if you want to do some overclocking on those cards. XFX has a double warranty scheme but i don't know if it works in Pakistan, it ended here in Bangladesh.

The GTX 550Ti however has Physx on it - which the HD6790 doesn't.

GTX550Ti +1 cos of physx

PhysX is not really a selling point, a large performance drop for a not very noticeable increase is graphics, not to mention hardly any games use it.

@Pell, unless the GTX 550 Ti negligibly cheaper than the HD 6790, don't buy it.

if its the GTX550Ti - then go with the Gigabyte- with teh cooler it comes with you can overclock better, if its HD6790 - than get the XFX cos they have a better cooling solution than, but only IF the XFX is a dual fan model.
