Epson777 ink loss

Hello, I am a newbe here at the board but have stopped by the site from time to time.
A friend has a Epson 777. And he keeps having to buy color ink cartridges, even though he "NEVER" uses color.
I checked the settings and they are config'd to only use black ink. It appears that no matter what, color ink gets used. And that costs! That is some great business plan for epson.
Does anyone know how to get around this? Its not fair to say the least.

May be because it's cleaning the print heads all the time and that's using up all the ink. When you run out next time (since he never uses color ink anyway), simply pop the color cartridge up and close it back down - it might work in tricking the printer that there's actually a new cartridge installed.
