The problem I am having, which i first thought was the display port cable but i have since ruled out, is that when i boot after the system is turned off, i very quickly get motherboard error ‘4d’ with boot light illumination and black screen. It gets frozen in this state and will not boot.

If i switch off the pc manually and turn it back on, it goes through several boot codes and then will get stuck on 84 or 86 error. None of these including the ‘4d’ error are listed in the manual.

On 3rd power cycle, the system goes through about 2 minutes of random codes and then eventually the monitor turns on and it boots! Everything works fine once it boots, i stress tested CPU in cinebench, gpu in 3d mark, and ran memtest86 for 8 hrs with no errors. I have ran a couple games and no crashes, cpu runs at max during testing of 84c on core 4 and most other cores in 70s. During gaming the cores do not exceed 70c.

The GPU works well and games running well, around 200 to 240 fps on COD BO6 for example, with extreme graphics preset in game and running up to 2925mhz max gpu core clock and 14000 mhz memory. No overclocks applied to CPU or GPU, except i did enable xmp in bios and it did not change the boot issue.

I have tried a couple things, switching monitors, trying hdmi instead of dp, swapping dp cables, updated bios, cleared cmos multiple times, and to no avail. System still hangs on ‘4d’ at first boot, and takes usually 3 power cycles on and off to boot into the os and pull the boot screen onto the monitor. The boot is always delayed, as if i am switching on the mobo for the first time or after a cmos reset.

So my main questions: do I have a faulty motherboard here? Is there anything I could try to fix the problem? Has anyone else had this issue? I contacted gigabyte by submission of a ticket and included all these details and no one from Gigabyte has even read my ticket and it has been about a week. I have a couple weeks left for the hassle free returns. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

And for reference this is the most pricey build i have ever put together. Been building since 2003. And ironically only the second system i have had a motherboard issue with, besides a really cheap build i made in 2016.

With such an expensive PC these are just suggestions that have worked for me and may work for you. You could try reseatting and repasting the CPU then reseat the RAM and reseat the GPU, if that does not work the motherboard may be faulty. Its unfortunate but it does happen. I have had a few brand new motherboards faulty out of the box in my past PC building experiences. You may also want to try setting the BIOS to default settings and see if it will POST without errors. If it still shows the same error or fails completely, you may want to consider replacing your motherboard before the hassle free time runs out. Please advise if reseating the hardware helped or did not work and if you decide to replace the motherboard. Please post your result if you still have issues or if the PC runs well with the new motherboard when you have time . There are professional people here who are experienced with today"s technology that can help you now and in the future. All the Best And Wishing You Success.
