error installing software

While I was installing windows 7 I accidently removed the cd when the computer had to reboot to finish installing. I know I messed up but once I had put the cd back in a message came up saying "windows cannot complete installation in safe mode. To continue installing windows, restart computer." So I did and now every time the computer restarts a message saying "the computer retarded unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click "ok" to restart the computer, and then restart installation." If anyone can help me or walk through the installation or to remove whatever residual windows files might be on, I would really appreciate your help.

If you feel that the windows installation was unsuccessful, press "SHIFT+F10", then open the command prompt. In command prompt type as "regedit" and change the value of "HKLocal" from 1 to 3. Once you are done with this try with the installing the cd. Hope this will helps.

ok i made it to the registry editor. i see 5 files.1) hkey_classes_root. 2) hkey_current_user. 3)hkey_local_machine. 4)hkey_users. 5)hkey_current_config
so when i click on hk_local_machine a whole bunch of other files open up.
there are 3 columns to the right. name, type, and data, under NAME it says (defult) under TYPE it says reg_sz and under DATA (value not set). ive right clicked on name and changed the value to 3 and restarted the installation but again nothing happened.
