a friends got a new system... quite buggy...
maybe a dodgy motherboard, dont quite know.

anyway, windows 2000 pro is also being flakey... namely giving all these wierd error messages, and i cannot do
my computer -> c drive -> rightclick -> properties
cauzes explorer to crash.

can someoen help me out here... give me a clue as to how to tackle this and best fix?

1. SAM failed to start the TCP/IP or SPX/IPX listening thread

2. the secdrv service failed to start due to the following error: the system cannot find the file specified

3. the server {registry string} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout

thanx in advance

with win2k's kernal crashing just cause you try to access hdd properties...you may be wanting to install win2k over itself just to redo the hardware.

of course i assume you put in all your updated drivers, sp 2, inf intel patches or 4 in 1 amd drivers..etc..

good luck :)

i agree with redstar, do an 'upgrade' from within windows 2000 (this will reinstall the OS without deleting any settings), then get updates such as service pack 2, chipset drivers, etc.

i just finished working on a pc with very similar problems at the office. explorer would crash at certain times, and the mobo was suspected by the user. i 'upgraded', installed sp2 and all the critical updates, via 4 in 1'd and she was perfect. good luck, amigo!!!

ignore everything i say

i struggle on...
reinstall of win2k has already been done... and its NOT a via chipset (ali magik)

besides... all these problems were happening in win98 too, but worse.

on a more happy note my enermax 550W psu is great!!!!!!!

Those are network service problems. What NIC are you using, and has it been swap tested with a different one? Something in the NIC is preventing "server" from starting up. Without server, DCOM can't start "file not found", meaning server service not found I assume, and SAM can't start a network listener. I would bet that if you are on a network, other machines couldn't log in to you. Swap the NIC first imho.

not connected to any network
just got a netcom 56k internal modem, very similar to mine.

win2k had no problems detecting it, even before we installed the drivers, just to be safe.
