Ethernet cable isnt working at college

So i just moved into college and my wireless adapter works fine so i can get by with internet but it isnt satisfactory when it comes to gaming so i brought my ethernet cable and plugged it into the back of my computer and into the wall where there is one of those ethernet cable plugs but it still doesnt work. If it helps, ive tried to plug it into my xbox 360 to get xbox live on that as well and it didnt work for that.

Have you considered the other end of the ethernet wall thing isnt plugged in to a acsess point?

You may need to speak to your campus computer help line to make sure that port is active. You may also be required to install something like Cisco Clean Access Agent onto your system to ensure that it has active virus protection and is up to date on critical patches.

its possible, Ive tried it in 3 different dorm rooms (friends rooms) so it might be that none of them are connected anywhere but i have no idea. I just know its not my particular outlet

if the outlets work for your friends, but not you, possible your computer's ethernet card is bad.

Or talk to your campus helpdesk. If they are using port security they may need your MAC so they can open the port.
