Solution
The eia/tia standard for ethernet says the wire gauge must be between 22-24. There is a exception somewhere that allows 26 gauge for patch cable but I forget the details and am too lazy to read that massive document again. There likely is a distance limitation.

Part of the problem with using wire sire outside of 22-24 is most rj45 plugs are designed for that wire gauge. They can not properly cut the insulation and make contact with these smaller wires. If you purchased the cable premade the vendor should have tested the cable.

In addition if the wire you purchased is CCA and not pure copper wire you can also have issues.

Lots and lots of fake cable on the market especially from ebay and amazon.
