Ethernet cable tab not plugging in all the way

Hey,

I just noticed for the first time that my ethernet cable will not plug all the way in and I can't, for some reason, seem to remember whether this has always been the case. I'm afraid I messed up the lan port. Does this sound of out the ordinary? The ethernet cable plugs in so far that it cannot be removed without excessive force, but it still wiggles around if I pull the cord.

Thanks!

Does the Ethernet cable have one of those anti-snag (snagless) protectors on it?

Quick reference link:

https://blog.diskdepot.co.uk/index.php/question-what-is-snagless-network-cable/

The designs vary but all provide some covering over the release clip that must be pressed to unplug the connector.

The anti-snag protectors can often get in the way.

Especially if the Ethernet cable is poorly designed and/or constructed.

Try to obtain an Ethernet cable that is not "snagless".

Determine if that cable/connector is easier to plug-in, fully seat, and un-plug.

Depending on circumstances, I have used a sharp knife to trim off the "snag protection".

Especially when it gets in the way.

Generally soft and easily sliced through but I have run into exceptions. Very sharp knife is needed.

Can be tricky and a bit delicate. Absolutely do not try to do that with the cable connected.

Test on an expendable cable if you wish to try trimming.
