Ethernet Connection Help

I just got my brand new desktop and it runs Ethernet. It says it needs a cable and I don't know what I'm doing because it won't connect to the Internet without one. What do I do?

You purchase a Cat5e cable of sufficient length.

Do you have a modem/router for your internet connection ?
Also I would recommend a Cat6 cable for Gigabit connection.
The Ethernet port on a Desktop is located near the middle of the Back Panel just above the audio Jacks.

Up to 100 meters, no difference between Cat5e and Cat6 for gigabit performance.
