Hi all,

So today I swapped out my Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5700x. I updated the BIOS before hand.

Since I have installed it, my ethernet connection has been on and off at best. At times it will show the "not connected" symbol, then other times it will show that I am connected but nothing loads, and then for a short while I will be connected to the internet just for it to cut out again.

I have reset Windows, hasn't fixed it. I have installed the ethernet driver and it's still not working. I have no idea what has caused it because it was working perfectly before the new CPU install.

Any idea on what could be causing this?

Thanks all.

I would be suspect of the bios.

The ethernet chip runs off the chipset not the the cpu directly. The chipset is the same as it was before. I don't think the cpu chip has any directly support for network stuff...at least I think it doesn't I have not looked into the details of amd lately.

just updated BIOS to a later version and still no luck.

Last bet is to just completely wipe windows and reinstall it fresh, see if that works.

Failing that, I guess just install my old CPU and install an older bios and call it a day.

In Device Manager >Network adapters find and select your network card. A window should appear with multiple tabs providing more information about the network adapter and its' properties. Check all tabs - be sure to look in Events.

= = = =

Also look in Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Either one or both tools may be capturing some network/network card related error codes, warnings, or even informational events when the Ethernet connection goes "on and off".

Here’s a concise version of the troubleshooting steps:

1. Check Physical Connections

- Ensure Ethernet cable is secure; try a different cable and port.

2. Inspect Ethernet Port

- Look for damage on the port; test with another device if possible.

3. Check BIOS Settings

- Confirm onboard LAN is enabled in BIOS.

4. Update/Rollback Network Drivers

- Get the latest driver from the motherboard site or roll back if needed.

5. Reset Network Settings

- Run `netsh winsock reset`, `netsh int ip reset`, `ipconfig /release`, `ipconfig /renew`, and `ipconfig /flushdns` in Command Prompt (Admin).

6. Check for Software Conflicts

- Ensure no software (e.g., antivirus) is blocking the connection.

7. Test in Safe Mode

- Boot into Safe Mode with Networking to check if the issue persists.

8. Inspect Hardware

- Test with a separate network card or check for motherboard issues.

9. Check Power Management Settings

- Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” in Device Manager.

10. Reinstall Windows

- As a last resort, consider reinstalling Windows if the issue remains unresolved.
