"Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

First off: I have read at least 8 topics here under this title, done what they said, and it has not resolved my issues.

I have a new PC that I built. For a week or so, the internet was working totally fine. Then it stopped working for 2 days, and after endlessly trying to do things, it magically fixed itself for another 2 days before breaking again, giving the message "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration."

I have tried hard-resetting the router, modem, and ethernet cables, as well as replacing them; run an ipconfig /renew; I replaced the router and ethernet cables; set it to a static IP instead of auto-detect, disabled/enabled the IPv6, updated all of my drivers.

Throughout all of this, my wireless connection on my laptop and mobile devices has been usable. Also of note: Immediately after booting up, my internet connection works for about a minute before not working any longer and displaying the above error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm running on Windows 8.1.

When I try to run ipconfig /renew, it says "An error has occurred while renewing interface Ethernet: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

Tell us about your network. What router do you have? Are you using it for DHCP and/or DNS?

What is the problem computer's ip address? Does it even have one? Are any of the other devices set for static addressing? Are you able to ping your gateway? Are you able to ping any other devices on your network?

It sounds like a driver problem, or physical connectivity problem such as your card is physically bad or your network cable is bad. Also try a different ethernet port on your switch/router.

First, check your link lights. Do they stay on steadily?

My router is the NETGEAR Wireless Router - N300 (WNR2000). I'm not sure how to tell if I'm using it for DHCP or DNS? In my router settings it has it check that I am using the router as a DHCP server.

My ARRIS modem light is blinking for "online" in orange, which is apparently not good and means it's searching.

IPConfig says my IP address is a local one (192.168.1.6), setting a static IP did not solve the issue.

I am able to ping my wireless laptop from the desktop currently having issues.

I replaced the router itself, the ethernet cable from the router to the modem, and the ethernet cable from the router to my PC. The network card is built in to my MOBO (ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z), I'm not using an extra one. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the network connection.

The fact that you are receiving an address and are able to ping across your network would seem to indicate that the problem does not lie within your network. That said, are you able to ping your gateway (router)?

Do you have any ? or X in your device manager? Specifically for ethernet adapters?

If your modem is scanning/searching, that would make it seem that your providers is having an issue. Though you can get on with other devices?

Just out of curiosity, what does the windows network troubleshooter say?

I think my router pings are going through. Device manager says everything is fine and dandy.

That's why I'm confused. My modem is blinking but then my wifi is working, which leads me to believe it has something to do with my PC.

Windows network diagnostics says:
"Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration
The Default gateway is not available (this message only appears sometimes.)

Actually just discovered I was reading the modem wrong, "ONLINE" is solid green but the "link" is flashing (which according to my ISP is supposed to be happening.)

Called them and they were no help at all.
