Ethernet not working on computer

I am trying to connect my computer to ethernet via the main network center in the house. The box is called Home Director: Network Connection Center . When I try to connect one of the ethernet plugs to my computer, my computer says that nothing has been plugged in and the ethernet lights do not turn on. I'm sure all of the plugs work. Any help on why I'm not getting any connection would be great.

This is the connection center where the ethernet goes (Apologies it's a little dirty, has not been touched in a long time!) . The yellow cable is the one I'm using to put into my computer. I replaced the ethernet cable that went to loft because I didn't use it.

That's not a network switch. It's a telephone port expansion module from the part number.
