Hi everybody,

I have a problem with my desktop PC, I always use Ethernet to connect it to my router, however one day it just stopped working and now it enters in a identifying/unplugged loop, the weird thinhg is that I only have this problem with my desktop computer. I've tried the following in order to solve it and nothing has worked so far:

*I uninstalled and installed the driver completely.
*I used a fixed Ip for my router
*I installed a fresh version of the OS
*I changed my default speed to all the options possible (10mbps half duplex, 10mbps full duplex, etc.
*The Ethernet cable is fine because I connect another laptop that I have and it works correctly.
*I have tried restoring the mode, trying another ethernet port, etc.
*I have changed the motherboard completely.
*I have tried an external Ethernet adapter
*With a USB Wireless I can get Internet but it is very unstable and slow
*The power management Ethernet is off so it never goes down.
*Flushing the DNS and all of that.
*Disabled the OnBoard LAN with the BIOS and used only the external adapter
*Updating the bios or using previous versions.

So far I don't have too many options, I'm not a Hardware expert but I consider myself pretty good at it (I always build my own computers and troubleshoot almost every error except for this!) My only guesses right now is that somehow the router is faulty and doesn't work with my pc correctly, another options is that somehow my processor can't handle the network correctly, I seriously have no other idea!

Any help is very welcome!

PD:

My specs are:

OS: The problem started with Windows 7, tried Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and currently using Windows 10
AMD Phenom X6 1055T
Previus MB: Gigabyte 880GM-USB3
Actual MB(Bought yesterday): Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
8gb ram DDR3 1600mhz Adata
Kingston SSD 256gb
Samsung HDD 500gb
AMD Radeon 6870HD
CoolerMaster Extreme 600W

Solution
Hi everybody,

I just figured it out it was my modem, it was very curious because my pc was the only one affected, all the other devices in my house worked just fine with ethernet or Wi-Fi, smartphones, tablets and other desktops.

Thanks for your reading.
What router do you have? Is it just a router or modem/router?

Did you try a different router LAN port? Preferably a port you know works well with an unaffected device. (I think you have: i.e., "trying another ethernet port, etc.". Just want to confirm.)

If just a router can you connect your desktop directly to the modem and see if internet connectivity is constant?

Even though the Ethernet cable works on another computer there can still be just enough tolerance (or lack thereof) to cause a problem somewhere else. Try a different known working Cat 5, 5e, or 6 ethernet cable anyway.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

My router is a Modem/Router I have tried a different LAN port and I have tried different cables also, it is the same result, works on the laptop(Alienware M14x R2) and other computers but the desktop still nothing.

Okay....

Re-read your OP and gave it all some more thought.

Do you see any errors or warnings in the desktop logs (via Event Viewer) that correspond with the "identifying/unplugged loop". Look for processes/services that fail to start or, more likely, suddenly stop. There can be dependencies above and below so you may end up with some cascading events.

Also look for other errors and warnings not necessarily related to network connectivity. Something behind the scenes that does not directly affect you or what you may be doing at any given time.

That leads me to my current "last thought". PSU: age, condition, load? Seems to be the one big constant. Power supply problems can be very intermittent and subtle.

Can you reduce the load by disconnecting the HDD, optical drive (if present)? May shed some light if an overload condition is the culprit. Otherwise, if not load, the problem may narrow to the PSU having some failure.

I disconnected the secondary HDD, a few fans and the secondary monitor from the GPU, still the same result.

In a few hours I will try a new modem and see if this works just in case my current modem have a specific problem with my PC, if this doesn't work I will try a different PSU then, after that I think it will be just a dead end.

Thanks!

EDIT: No other warnings or failures so far, no process suddenly ended, nothing 🙁.
