Ethernet over HDMI?

Hi, i'm so confused right now. What does ethernet over HDMI do? Will it mess up my ethernet cable or is it just there?

Ethernet over HDMI is 99% useless, it is mostly meant as a means of 2nd thing (Like TV connected to DVR) to use other ones network connection (this would still require normal Wifi/wired LAN) but ONLY if both support it.
99% of things do not. Do not worry about it messing things up.
