Question Ethernet Port Not working correctly

I have an Asus prime z390-a motherboard. I got an ethernet cable today and went to plug it in but had no connection. After trying everything else I had ruled out everything but the computer. That's when I noticed that my ethernet port would only light up if after I inserted the ethernet cable I pulled on it a little bit. It's working now but it seems to be very touchy where the slightest movement can cause it to become disconnected. Is there something I can do to fix this without sending it back for a replacement?

Inspect the ethernet plug and computer port for signs of damage or debris.

Do you hear a firm click when the cable is plugged in?

Try swapping the cable end for end.

Sometimes just a minute bit of difference may make a connection tighter.

On the other hand the problem may just move with the ethernet plug in question.

Which most likely means you will need a replacement cable.

The cable is brand new so thats not a problem I tested it on my laptop and worked fine.
Yes I heard a click when i plugged it in.
I'll try switching the ends around and see what happens.

If the cable works on the laptop and if swapping ends makes no difference then the ethernet port on the computer may be the issue.

With the computer off and unplugged open the case and gentle wiggle the port. Do not force movement, just see if the ethernet port moves.

And remember to look inside the port for debris that could be interfering with a full connection.
