I have a pc and a ps4 right next to eachother and my ps4 runs off of wifi atm. i had to move my router away from the pc and ps4 because of remodeling and i now only have 1 ethernet cord running to my pc. i would like to hook my ps4 up to a line to improve connectivity. my problem is i dont know if having a splitter will cut my performance because 1 cord is handling the connection of 2 devices. help?

There is no such thing as an Ethernet splitter. Unlike power, tv coax, and phone signals; Ethernet requires a direct point to point connection so you cant just Y or T the wire and it work.

As daswilhelm said, what you want is called a Ethernet switch. Might as well get the gigabit variety for marginal more money.

id really like something cheaper i can get now tho. is there something i can get at a radioshack or walmart possibly? i know for a fact i wont be needing more ethernet ports either

walmark probably carries a switch. if you are looking for a different technology to fix your issue, there isn't one.

Im sure walmart has a switch, cheaper then $20 I doubt it, and that netgear switch is WAY more quality then what you will find in walmart.

This is not gigabit but it is only $10. http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SF1005D-5-port-100Mbps-Desktop/dp/B000FNFSPY/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1441314134&sr=1-1&keywords=ethernet+switch

There is no 3 port switch, they are 5,8,16,24, or 48. So the 5 port model is the cheapest.

If you have an old router you can configure it to just use it as Ethernet switch.
