Yallow!

I am currently visiting my grandmothers and was wondering how I can get the internet to work

Problem: grandparents have a crappy local cable modem that only has one ethernet port...it gets worse...they have an apple wireless router connected to modem via ethernet,my pc uses ethernet only and it's either I get internet or the whole house doesn't,the apple wireless router also only has one ethernet plug, which is obviously in use.

So I was wondering what if I bought a cheap ethernet switch and attached it to the modem and then to both my pc and router...would it work?any help is one step forward

Thanks in advance

It would most likely not work to put a switch in where you are talking. Usually if the modem has only one ethernet port, it is a modem only and supports one IP Address. What is the make and model of your modem? Most likely you will need to purchase a router to connect to the modem.
