Every time I plug in my disc drive my whole computer shuts down.

As it says in the title, I recently built a new computer but when I tried to install my disc drive my whole computer wouldn't turn on. I isolated it down and this is the only thing it could be. I'm using a sata cable to connect it to my motherboard. I don't know what to do.

It's possible there is a short in the drive and it's causing voltage problems.

Do you have another drive to try? Any SATA drive will work.....just to see if it works with another drive.

I actually stole this one out of my brother's computer, Also, I have a hard drive and an SSD both plugged in and working.

I'm still leaning that there's something wrong with the drive...although....it could be something funny with the SATA cable or the power cable as well....but probably less likely.

Yep, it was the SATA... Turns out the drive didn't work anyway.
