I think this is a HORRIBLE biased article. Here's why. The survey was done ONLINE by an online sales company! (Pricegrabber) That means that everyone doing the survey is ALREADY online, and it excludes people like grandmas that don't even know how to use the internet! What kind of mis-informative biased crap is this? Are you freaking KIDDING ME? Toms has officially gone to hell. It's like the editors and staff lack critical thinking skills. Since pricegrabber is their shopping engine (ads) and they're pretty much conjoined at the hip, I can see how this article is pro "shop from us." Open to discussion, that's my flame. I'm pissed!
 
I was surprised by the results, only to realize about half way through the article that this was an online survey. No wonder it's so biased! They should have made a note about their source so casual readers won't be misinformed. However, I don't think this is pure misinformation - it's just really misleading if you don't read critically. Always keep the source of info in mind when reading something! :wink:
 
Haha it's sort of like doing a survey of people on the THG forumz to see how many consumers are interested in building their own PCs. Then being like "see, Dell is SCREWED! 99% of people surveyed are interested in building their own PCs!"

It's misinformative to the average reader. But yes, "TECHNICALLY" it's MISLEADING. Sad Tom's. Very sad.
 
Oooh, where have YOU been? :-D I just set up my new D-Link DGL-4300. Woot! I'm a little concerned about my FX-55 using my 3000+ heatsink/fan. I think it's a bit warmish. Pullin' in @ 40c+. I'm thinking about getting the Thermaltake little water cooler or else the Zalman low-profile 8000 something or other. The problem is this FX-55 is on an mATX mobo with very cramped space. I had to put on that Antazone AN-1000 NB cooler on, which is right next to the CPU. I'm looking at limiting space both from the side and from the X-Qpack beam above it. What should I DO? Is >45c ok for the FX-55. AMD's tech specs are 49 max. :-\

Ahh, well I figured out that nTune doesn't like the FX processors or x64 windows much. I'm considering buying Windows Media Center Ed when Vista comes out. I have the AIW X1900 card and the tuner functions don't work under x64 either. So anyway, my system crashes were due to nTune, not the FX-55 swap. I did a fresh install of windows to make sure it was all good anyway. That's like my 10th fresh install since June or so between my two systems.
 
Dude how does that DGL-4300 work? I've been thinking about swapping out my CrapSys for that baby. :lol:

I couldn't tell you anything about the wireless side, I turned it off so neighbors don't use it and I don't have to set up any WPA or anything. I have a wireless card that I don't use, it's too slow and all my comps are in one room, but if I ever get a laptop I'll want wireless, so I figured what the hell.

I upgraded from a 10/100 MS router, which I sold online to some lady who had 3 of them already. She's familiar with them I guess. I didn't have the heart to mention gigabit LAN to her. As far as transfer speeds, I have yet to push any HD movies from one comp to the next, so I have yet to see any real change. It comes with a blue cat 5e cable, and I use a cat 6 to go from my modem to the router. The blue LED's on the front (I didn't even know) match my biggest and best system, so it's a nice touch too, although they're quite bright if you look directly facing them. I recommend setting it an angle, which allows you to see the lights just fine but won't blind you. It's identical to my old router in size and how it sits, except it's a bit fancier looking with it's black (the two plastic edges both have removable protective stickers that many people probably wouldn't notice) and the main plug is wider than a regular plug, but not a brick like a heavy AC plug normally is. Still, it takes the outer wide slot on my surge protector. (UPC is yet to be bought =\ )

The reasons I bought this router are:

1) I want low-latency for a future switch add-on, faster transfer speeds (although it lacks jumbo packets, which I can get included in a switch later on anyway)

2) Wireless capability (but so did my old one) I wish draft-N was standardized, or is it now?

3) Low-latency gigabit gaming between my systems and online, but VOIP should be good with this router, even while I'm gaming I hope.

Perhaps the best part is...there's no software like there was with my MS modem. Instead it uses an http web address for options access. I've already upgraded the firmware, which I think was released the same day I got the router.

I love this router, I just wish it had jumbo packets. That's the ONLY real downside. That and it's not an 8 port router, rather than the typical 4. :-D If it had both of those things I might forego the switch and save myself another $100.
