EVGA 1080 SC vs FTW

Hello. Right now the FTW is only 5 dollars more expensive than the SC version including a 20 dollar rebate. Which card is superior? I plan to overclock. I know the FTW is slightly faster out of the box but that doesn't necessarily make it a better card from what I understand.

They are practically identical except the FTW has an RBG LED. Hardly a dealbreaker lol. I would be wary of anything from EVGA with ACX 3.0 cooling myself. Not sure if you are aware of the trouble they have had with the VRM overheating etc?

I am not aware. By that do you mean I should stay away from the EVGA SC card and choose the FTW, or stay away from both cards and go with a different brand?

Apparently EVGA have addressed the issue, but whio knows what'll happen after some use. I wouldnt say avoid them, s up until the 10 series EVGA were maybe the best GPU manufacturers, but you should at least consider it. Have a search around.

ACX 3.0 is new to the 10 series because of the issues with ACX 2.0. It seemed to make things worse. The Nvidia reference models are fine.

Anything from ASUS (but be careful as some are huge and you need space in your case) or I like the Zotac AMP! Extreme (again huge), and also have a soft spot for MSI Gaming but people will have mixed feelings on that. The Palit Super Jetstream is good value for money also. Maybe if you said which others were in your price range in your area.

From the articles you linked the EVGA card was fixed by brute forcing the solution with a bios update that made the fans spin faster, thus louder. I'm not gonna touch that I'd rather pay more for something that works without issue.

It looks heavy I'm worried it could break the mobo.

That case says up to 310 mm in length with the top HDD cage installed; with the top cage removed, graphics cards up to 440 mm in length may be installed

What's your opinion on the Zotac AMP! compared to the AMP! Extreme or the MSI Gaming X? The AMP! is 75 dollars cheaper than the other 2.

The AMP! (non-extreme) is pretty close to the 1080 reference, and you aren't going to find a ton of difference between any of them unless you are trying to overclock to the extreme for those few extra FPS. Any 1080 on the market is going to blitz any AAA game and I'd just go for the best you can afford without getting one of the super expensive models because they are just overpriced and its throwing money away. Check you ahve the case to fit the card you choose, thats the most important thing. Brands like Zotac and Palit undercut the big players because they aren't as well known and might not quite have the same aesthetics or RGB LED's etc, but they are pretty much alike. I dont even find backplates make any difference to cooling myself, its just for prestige if you ask me.
