EVGA 1080 ti SC2 or MSI 1080 ti Gaming X?

Basically looking for everyone's opinion on which of these two 1080 ti cards I should go for. I realize it's probably a marginal difference, but I'm going for good cooling and lower noise (I don't generally do much in the way of overclocking), and I can't make up my mind. It's going in a full tower so I don't think space will be a concern. Any particular reason for one over the other? Thank you!

Here is a chart comparing the temperature and noise of a few of the 1080 Ti's for comparison.

EVGA are higher Performance and will be better for the Hardcore Gamer, but MSI are alright. I have also read up in the past about quite a few EVGA Cards burning out (or worse), They Superclock while MSI don't overclock as much, if at all...

p.s i'm not an expert, I haven't yet built a rig myself, just browsing the forum.

Yeah, you know, everyone I see is always praising EVGA, but I've had TWO of their superclocked cards burn out in the past (first one, then the one they sent to replace it), so I've always been wary. That being said, my current rig has very shitty cooling and filled with dust, so I figured it was probably my own fault. But always was a nagging concern. But you seem to be saying its not just me.

BUT, I keep reading about how fancy the SC2 cooling solution is, with its 9 sensors and what not, so that makes me think it will be LESS prone to overheating, despite my history. Hence, my being torn.

But thank you for your reply!

Really? Even with all that ICX cooling business on the SC2? Surprising. I guess I'm leaning towards the MSI at this point then, unless anyone has any other advice.

Thank you, fellow Krell.

Pascal cards all boost around the same clock speeds, no matter what the box says.
That's true for the 1050, the 1060, 1070 & 1080
Haven't checked yet but I'm almost certain it also applies to the Ti as well.

So my usual advise is, get the cheapest nice card available.
Since both of these cards are already overengineered, doesn't really matter which one you'll get.

Since EVGA has some quality control issues throughout their products I'm leaning towards MSI tbh although I'm not the biggest fan
On the other hand, if you often have problems with parts EVGAs great service and warranty policy could be interesting.

So get the cheaper card 😛

I actually found both cards for the same price, so couldn't rely on the cheaper one.

But thank you all for the advice! That chart shows the MSI is quiet a bit quieter than the SC2, and all else being equal, that's definitely a big plus.

Gaming X it is.

Cheers!
