I just bought all the parts for my new pc build. I have a gtx 1070 and an i5 7600k. So yesterday I got the power supply. I got the evga 600w BQ and I was very excited. But when I went online I saw a few people saying it s a piece of garbage. Is that true? What do you guys think of it?

A necessary necro, for which I appologize, however, misinformation. The EVGA B3 series should NOT be used, contrary to what Matt has stated here. Likely this was unknown at the time and not due to any fault of Matt's, however, all three B3 power supplies (3 different models in the B3 family) tested by Aris blew up during testing in the lab. It is highly recommended to avoid the EVGA B3 series units.

There have been a couple of users who have pointed to this thread as proof that the unit was not bad, which is why I felt the need to correct the information so that future visitors are not mislead by this mistaken belief.

As of THIS moment, the only EVGA power supplies I would recommend would be the B2, G2, G3, GS, GQ, P2 and T2 units.

And for those who have the B3 ,it "blew up" when testing for OPP which is really pushing the unit over it's rated limits so keep your pants on.If you have a 550watt unit and a pc that maybe uses 300watts should you not right away be immensely worried .

^ I agree a sensible necro update of a thread in cases like these.

I like many assumed the b3 would be a dc-dc upgrade unit of excellent quality like the former b2 was.

Evga seem to be dropping the ball of late with a mass release of new models, all different platforms , all diffetent manufacturers & of varying quality.
Absolutely no need for this, I think maybe the only reason is the release of the newer corsair cx/m units which essentially have the $50 market sewn up now.

I think 'blew up' is maybe too strong a term , popped is more like it.Main concern to me is the main fuse doesnt blow which means the shorted unit still powers on to a cascade of crackles & sparks

But yeah I wouldnt recommend one now irregardless , the corsair cx is cheaper - disregarding its lax hold up time its 100% safe , the tx is about $10 more - absolutely no reason whatsoever to buy a b3 in reality.
