EVGA GTX 560 vs Sapphire Radeon HD 5850

Sapphire Radeon HD 5850

Now a little background:

I've recently purchased all the parts needed to build my first computer (for gaming). I have them all except the video card (Radeon 5850), which I ordered on amazon and will ship in two weeks.

Now I'm looking at the GTX 560 on newegg (560, not 560Ti). Essentially what I want to know is which one would be faster, and which one gives more bang for the buck. I'm sure I'll be happy with the 5850, but if the 560 fast enough, I may cancel my amazon order (you can do that before it ships) and get one of these, which will ship in two days.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

^ The 5850 is a good card, but if you want more performance, then for that price range I would suggest the HD 6870

The HD 5850 is the much better deal, it performs about as fast as the 560 non-Ti at stock speeds.

The 5850 is about as fast as the 6870. All three are about the same performance wise (before overclocking).

If you're just going to stick with a single card for a while get the 5850 before they run out.

The choice here seems obvious. The 560 hands down. The 5850 is old and dead and to get one now on the hopes of getting another one later on doesn't seem like the right move imo...especially after seeing those benchmarks of toms that I posted.

nGood call on choosing the dead and deactivated card...you might want to look into building a 1156 system seeing how their killing that off also.

hardly dead, its still a great Dx11 card.

It's dead seeing how AMD drove a stake through it's heart and killed if off. It was a great card in it's prime, but for $20 more a person can get a gtx 560 that mops the floor with the 5850, and when it comes to o/c it gets even worse for the 5850 vs the 560.

So again why would someone with a budget of $200 for a vid card get a dead card that can't keep up with other cards in it's class on the hopes of adding another one of those dead cards later on ?
