EVGA GTX 560Ti FPB Automatic Reboots

So I've built my first PC and I seem to be having some problems with playing games. First things first, system specs:

MOBO: Asus P8P67 Pro
CPU: Intel i5 2500k
Ram: Corsair XMS3 4GB (x2)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM
PSU: Cooler Master GX 650w
GPU: EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB

The first problem I noticed was that when the computer goes into sleep mode and I try to wake it up, I'll hear the PC start (fans running, HDD spinning) but then it'll stop and the monitor won't turn on, forcing me to reboot the system. Secondly, games that I think should work great, don't. Specifically, I have to turn settings on Portal 2 and Dragon Age: Origins down to medium to play them or otherwise the the screen will go black and reboot the system; Starcraft 2 will reset the PC even with settings on low.

Glancing around the interwebs, I can't seem to find anyone else that seems to have my same problem and was hoping that someone with more technical knowledge than me could send some advice my way. Much appreciation if you can!

I'd recommend you put your computer on high performance in the power settings. Sleeping/hybernating will lower the power going to your graphics card enough to prevent it from starting back up.

Second, is make sure you have adequate cooling for you graphics card. Get GPU-Z and watch your card's temps to make sure you aren't overheating while gaming.

Third, which might be sooner is make sure you have both PCIe cables firmly in the graphics card. I had the problem of the PCIe from the power supply working great but the 2x4pin molex to PCIe adapter didn't quite fit into my graphics card as well and wasn't fully inserted so when my card needed that extra power it couldn't get it and shut down (also found out the card could boot with 1 PCIe).

As for your settings on games, I have portal 2 and a similar build as you can see in my sig and have no problems running it. Not sure why that is. Could be the drivers as intelx stated.

@Crewton I currently have the computer in high performance mode, but that seems more of a "band-aid over the engine light" situation. One of the first things I did was take out and replace the card in the socket, and reattach the pins. I haven't tried out the graphics temp monitoring, so I'll give that a gander.

@intelx, @GeekApproved I do have the latest drivers installed, ver270.61. The same goes for the intel chipset, mobo and monitor.

Hmmm....sometimes there are problems with new drivers, I would first try an older version or try the one that came with the card.

Also check your ram settings (what model?). If your not running the correct voltage, speed and timings, that could cause problems. Auto usually doesn't work correctly, especially if your using 1.65v ram.


I don't know what else would cause this but I've heard a lot of boot problems with those Asus boards.

I wouldn't buy a Asus P67 board if it was $5 right now.
