Just checked amazon and saw them both to be at 690$. Hybrid seems to have lower clock speeds however. Which one is better? Any known issues for either? Is the AIO cooler prone to leakage?

I'm also a bit skeptical about having water inside my case. So there's that.

Tons of gtx 980tis are on discounts all the time for as little as $610-630. Better get one of them, the extra $60 will not give you a performance boost you will notice. In fact only way to notice that the most expensive version of a GPU is better than the cheapest version of the same GPU chip is if you run them side by side and even then you will be like "spending $70 extra for 5 fps? no thank you".
But if you are such a huge fan of those capabilities know that those 2 gpus are made for overclocking so unless you plan on doing an extreme overclock - again, waste. But That said I would go for the xteme windfore, really good cooling solution since I can't really trust Evga in their OWN liquid cooling. I mean MSI's Hybrid uses a Corsair Liquid Cooler and we know corsair make good liquid coolers but evga? How many cooling solutions have you seen from Evga?

Yeah, basically it should be a choice between the Gigabyte Xtreme Waterforce and Xtreme Windforce.

I would pick the GB over the evga any day, its simply the fastest 980ti on the market today and its built like a tank. If you have adequate airflow in your case (which we know nothing about) the windforce should be perfectly fine as it will not thermal throttle.

The GB is not the fastest on the market. Also the EVGA Hybrid has been a great contender of any other liquid cooling solution for the 980TI. Overclocking with a Hybrid Ive heard has been great due to the low temperatures it provides, if your into overclocking that is. There is a great promotion on Jet.com for the 980TI Gigabyte G1, you can get this for 599$ with a coupon code and you can also save some more money if you waive the return shipping cost. I think I saw someone get theres for $585 out the door. Any 980TI is a beast, only some have different variances of cooling and power output. The only ones Im not a fan of is the reference models, but any custom PCB 980TI from any of the known manufacturers is a good choice. Your basically going to pay extra for a few measily FPS due to the factory overclock, which you can achieve yourself. And yes this is coming from someone who had to have the best of the best and bought the K|ngP|n. I spent quite a bit more then any other 980TI due to the copper plating and higher clock speed and higher phases. My card eats power like candy but stays cool as the wind and overclocked to beastly numbers. However if I had to do it again I would have just bought a more mainstream 980TI.

Also just to note, it seems everyone is paying more attention to the Core clock when really the boost clock is the most important. This is the speed it boosts to under load, even some of the highest Core Clock 980TIs dont boost as high as some with lower clocks. i was surprised when I saw my Kingpin boost to 1430mhz out of the box. Now Im sitting pretty at a 1550mhz Boost and 8000Mhz memory for my overclock.

Only mentioned the above because I had a pretty lengthy discussion with another member about what card was the fastest and he was pointing to the standard Core Clock. If thats what your looking at then the AMP! extreme would be the fastest but boost clock is whats important. Also if you want to jump into more specifics, most cards are using Hynix GDDR5 memory whereas it has been proven Samsung memory is the fastest and most overclockable.

clocks aint everything - kinda hard to look at a card that's not water cooled these days you get a air card that may idle up to 60c or a water card that may never see 60c at full load ?? then look at all the air coold card guys start looking to add a water block ant there own expense and all when you can get out of the box ready to go plug and play full evga support and warrantee...??

like I said at another thread the best selling or most reviewed giga card at newegg also has the lowest rating of the top 3 at 52% ?? hmmmm....go figure

that evga hybrid at the 689 price seems to be a real deal [opinion]

Agreed^, but wow idle at 60C air cooled? For now, my 980TI is on air and my fan curve keeps my temps below 58C on load. The hybrid from reviews I have seen has kept some users at the lower 50s under load which is impressive.

comes down to how lucky you were with a card ?? your case air flow - room temps ? and with the -0- fan that's a risk some find with theres ?

''GPU temperature will vary depending on clock speed, voltage settings, cooler design, and production variances.''

for what its worth

''temperatures are lower than with any other GTX 980 Ti we tested'' but still they report 50c idle ??

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_980_Ti_STRIX_Gaming/34.html

then funny this one with a -0- fan claimed 30c idle ?

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_980_Ti_Matrix/27.html

like maybe you did is make your own fan profile/curve and get things back to ''normal'' ??

then your back to..

''The Hybrid's 100% loaded thermal range is 22.91C to 24.04C (overclocked), with the clock-for-clock 980 Ti reference at 61.92C and stock at 61.39C. That's a massive difference. After adding ambient back in, our GPUs were sitting in the 40s with the Hybrid and in the 80s with the reference cooler design, which is approaching TjMax of the diode.

don't know all you can do is weed things out and make you best choice for good or bad

look over all end user reviews as well ??

thing is back to the poor reviews and review ratings of giga cards ??

good luck

Keep in mind that they are the same exact gpu. The only difference is the cooler, and the EVGA can cool beter.

That isn't to say anything bad about the Gigabyte card at all. It's a very good card. The EVGA just has the better cooler.

If they're the same price, get the EVGA. It's not clocked as high out of the box, but it will boost high because of the lower temperatures. You'll get better performance out of it than even what's listed on the box.

If you won't overclock the card at all, ever, then just get the cheapest one with the fastest clock speeds. But if you'll overclock, then the EVGA Hybrid is the best one to get between those two.

As for a third option, have you considered the 980 ti Zotac Amp Extreme? It's the fastest 980 ti out of the box, and the cooler on it is very good. It's actually good enough so that temperatures won't be the reason your overclock fails. It'll just be form too much electricity running through the chip.

In the end, though, all of these cards are going to perform VERY SIMILARLY. Just balance things according to your budget and whatever else matters to you (e.g. how the card will look in your case if you have a case window). You just have to like it, and because all 980 ti cards will have similar performance, you can consider things other than performance in your decision. :)

one more thing I wonder about is why then cards need 3 fans to do the same job as ones that need just 2 then that zotac is 13'' long ?? evga is only 10.5 ''

cant argue with this statement ''In the end, though, all of these cards are going to perform VERY SIMILARLY. don't forget the evga has a led shroud that you can get as well if wanted looks and lighting ?? [sad thing is they sell out as fast as they get them in]
