Hey guys.

I decided to build my first PC, (I'm really bad at this stuff, sorry in advance) and I've ran into some issues.
Specs:
CPU: i7-4790k
GPU: EVGA GTX 970
Mobo: Asus Z87 Pro
PSU: EVGA 750 G2
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

My PSU didn't come with any PCI-e cables or plugs-ins. It has VGA, MB, SATA, CPU and PERIF. There are two plugs on my GPU: 6 pin and 8 pin. My GPU came with 2 PCI-e adapter cables. One is a 6 pin, the other is an 8 pin. When trying to plug them in, I can only get the 6 pin (VGA or PERIF plugged into the PCI-e adapter) to work. My PC boots and I get a signal, but my GPU fans stutter and my computer doesn't recognize the GPU with only the 6 pin plugged in (I can't download drivers).

When I plug in the 8 pin, whether it's plugged in alone (either through VGA or PERIF into the adapter provided) or with the 6 pin plugged in as well, the fans work great, but I get no signal to my monitor.

Any ideas?

Solution
I'm not sure but I think 970 demands an 8 Pin + 6 Pin connection so make sure both VGA cables are connected. If that doesn't work try t connect monitor using different connection other than HDMI
IF your PSU came new in the box, it DOES have the necessary 6+2 cables. I have that exact power supply in the machine I'm currently typing this on, and I know for a fact that it comes with two PCIe power cables, both of which have two 6+2 connectors. Your unit comes with :

1 x 24 Pin ATX
2 x 4 + 4 Pin EPS12V
4 x 6 + 2 Pin PCI-E
9 x SATA
4 x Molex
1 x Floppy

If there are not two power cables that have two 6+2 PCI connectors in the box, you need to send it back. Do not use adapters and do not attempt to use other 6 or 8 pin connectors as they are NOT the right connections. Only the 6+2 connectors should be used with any 6 or 8 pin sockets on graphics cards when using the EVGA G2 750w.

Do they actually have PCI-e written on them? There are 6+2 cables, but they have VGA written on them. Are those the ones to use?

If I have both of them plugged in, I get no signal to my monitor. When I have one, I get a signal.

I tried plugging them into the GPU and the fans run but I don't get any signal on my monitor. Any ideas how to fix that? I'm trying to use HDMI. The cord is fine and the plugs work.

Plug into the mono and see if it works, if it does then problem very likely with graphics card.

Try plugging different connection into GPU like DVI and see if it works, maybe HDMI doesn't work but DVI does

I got home, changed nothing and it worked.. My fans are running, both VGA are plugged into my GPU and I'm getting a signal on my monitor, which is plugged in with HDMI. No clue what changed.

On most units they should say PCIe, PEG or VGA. The G2 750 cables say VGA.

Since it sounds like you are unfamiliar with build practices, you need to double check that the motherboard 24 pin connector, the CPU 4 pin, 4+4 pin or 8 pin 12v connector are both plugged into the motherboard in addition to the 6 or 8 pin connectors required to be plugged in to your GPU card.

Also, make sure you've installed the GPU card in the #1 PCIe slot and that your display cable from the monitor is connected to the output on the GPU card, and not one of the motherboard outputs.
