Don't blame Microsoft, if they didn't do it someone else would. It just shows you how clueless the patent office is. If you want to do something about it write a letter to your federal member.
 
the google giant is growing and growing... soon they will be competition in most major aspects of modern technology... now it is something as simple as a search machine, but it is the most used site in the world... and now they've gone over to the mobile phones where they are on their way to domination. soon they will introduce a pc OS which puts microsoft and apple in the dark where they belong...
 
What would be interesting is if Microsoft filed this patent simply to gain insight into the methods by which Google's search engine works.
 
US Patent office does not understand software.

We knew that for years.

Please start a commission to review all software patents. There are some software patents that are legit, but most aren't!

If you really wanna get your blood boiling, go pick up and read a copy of Math You Can't Use by Ben Klemmens. It's all about the messed up software and mathematics patents out there.
 
what is really needed here is a law that deterimes how you use the pattent, not what is patentable vs non-patentable. for example. if you file a pattent for a memory technology, you need to manufacture a product that uses that technology in it. no hareware or software, no patent. this will put patent trolls like RAMBUS out of busniess.

Spending $9 billion a year in R&D then patenting what they invent?

Thomas Edison patented the lightbulb and is universally recognised as it's inventor - but he didn't - Frederick de Moleyns patented it first 38 years earlier, 6 years before Edison was even born
...
So who invented the search engine? It doesn't matter, it only matters who patents it and all the Google fans need to get off their high horse as well because it certainly wasn't them either

If anything, the award for the invention of the search engine should go to Alan Emtage. If you don't know who he is, "Archie" it.

Only Rambus DID have it produced. Nobody liked the license costs... and THAT led to the trouble.
 
One thing that should disqualify a patent is "prior art" (e.g. someone's already done it, whether or not they got a patent on it). This seems so blatantly prior art how the patent office couldn't spot it I have no idea!
 
While I am certainly not Pro-Microsoft, I am anti-Google and their wicked, lying ways (that actually make Microsoft look like nice guys) enough that I would be excited to see this patent put some huge hurting on Google.
 
whatever ( Google and Microsoft ), both of them are getting loads of money everyday.. Google will surely find a way around if they find this patent as obtrusive. But its just foolish what Microsoft has done. I thought a few weeks ago, what if i start using bing? why always google? but today ill have to rethink!

Actually I think "MS syndrome" would be a better name. MS has over 5000 patents. How do you think they manage to strong-arm their way all over the place and crush competition?

Stealing the idea from the JEDEC meetings doesn't count
 
I can't wait for a full featured OS to be released by Google that competes on a corporate level. Unfortunately, most of us use MS products and can't really do anything big against them. Once a proper competitor on the corporate level hits, then we'll have fun.

It's sad that they're not innovating, rather they're just after money. Sure every business is after money, but hell Google has done a damned excellent job at making money and innovating. While keeping most of their stuff free for us end users.

The oldest search engine that is still widely in use is Alta Vista
Try that instead, it's pretty good
