Expanding car USB

My car has one USB port that is integrated with my car stereo. At times I need to be able to plug two USB devices and be able to choose between the two. I bought a USB adapter that allows two items to be plugged in but some times the power draw is too high and shut down the port. Are there any other options that I haven't tried?

Find a small USB 2 port switch instead of a hub type adapter. With a switch only one at a time is connected, as opposed to a hub where all are connected at all times.
