Hi.

I am looking to export the drivers from a printer that i previously
installed. The problem is that i can't locate the driver files. The printer
properties doesn't show the location. Is there a default location for .inf
drivers for printers in windows XP?

thanks

Look in the inf file for the printer. Inf files are found in the
\windows\inf folder. You will generally see a section called
[DestinationDirs]. I'm looking at one for a display driver and it has these
lines that describe where the files will be placed so you can see that 11 =
the \windows\system32 folder and 12 = the \windows\drivers folder.

[DestinationDirs]
DefaultDestDir = 11 ; system32
atirage3.Miniport = 12 ; drivers
atirage3.Display = 11 ; system32

Make sure that you are viewing hidden and system files. In Explorer, go to
Tools, Folder Options, View and under Hidden files and folders, click Show
hidden files and folders. Also, remove the check from Hide extensions for
known file types.

If this is not successful, check for the latest driver on the printer
manufacturer's web site.

Printer drivers are generally stored in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS. You can see this by selecting File > Server Properties from the Printers and Faxes window. Click on the Drivers tab and then properties on what ever driver interests you. This will show all the files associated with that "driver".
