Expresscard 34 to 2 PCI-E cards. Is this even possible?

I have a Dell M6800 which I use for a firewire based audio recording platform.

Until now I have been using Expresscard Firewire adapters without issue. Recently I have had the need to simultaneously run 2 separate firewire devices which require their own bus. I have been looking at possible ways I might accomplish this.

I have come across this device which claims that it will allow you to connect 2 PCI-E cards (1x only) via its Expresscard 34 adapter.

My plan was to use this with 2 separate PCIE 1x firewire cards. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to exist on Amazon or ebay or any US vendors. Also, I haven't been able to find any sort of reviews.

I think in theory one Expresscard has the bandwidth to deliver the full firewire 800 speed for 2 cards. I think this is the case, not absolutely positive.

Where I am having my doubts is that the cable that connects the dual PCI-E card PCB to the Expresscard adapter appears to be a standard 4 conductor usb cable. Again I'm not positive but it sure looks like it. If that is the case, is there any way this could even work? 2 PCIE firewire cards sending all that data back and forth to the expresscard bus over only 4 wires? The Expresscard pinout consists of 26 pins and each PCI-E 1x card has 36 pins. It just seems like a real stretch that all of this communication could occur over a 4 pin USB cable.

Can anyone enlighten me on this?

While it's possible to do this since there are PCIe x1 multiplexer chips and that USB cable is most likely a 3.0 one since that has enough pins to support PCIe x1, I just don't trust random devices that has no real name behind them.

It might work for a little while, but it probably won't last that long.

That's a good point. A 3.0 cable has 9 conductors. That might make it possible. You're probably right about the reliability of the thing. There is probably a reason these can't be found anywhere and there are no reviews. If it was cheaper, I might just try it, but it seems there is a high likelihood I'd be throwing $100 in the trash.
