Is it possible to extend the graphics card metal part that you can see on the exterior of the case? It’s touching my motherboard and won’t fit into the PCI-E slot because its way too long. Don’t know what its called.

Do you have a very unusual case or something? Because there's no way there's any problem fitting normal GPUs into that motherboard.

But, since you didn't even get to the point of giving us a single picture, we'll never know. Anyone with similar problems that encounters this thread, if you need to make physical alterations like this on fairly typical hardware, you're likely doing something very wrong.
Mini systems use a smaller plate at the back than standard hardware. If you are less than 1/2" away, be sure that you can't re-align the card to just slip past the side of the motherboard and be okay..otherwise you can remove and replace that plate with another that fits it. Last case scenerio is you hacksaw off the excess

Had to hacksaw it. There was nothing I could do. It was a used R9 280x in the B350 PC MATE MOBO.
