[SOLVED] External Blu Ray Player Isn't Seen By Windows

Hi everyone,

I hope you can help me. I have an external blu ray drive connected via USB 3.0 on Windows 10. Everything worked fine, until one day Windows stopped seing the drive. When I go into device manager I get the following error message on the drive: "STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE".

I can open and close the player no problem, it appears to start reading the disk as well, but neither Windows (nor VLC for that matter) "sees" the drive.

I have tried to uninstall the drive and rebooting, that hasn't worked. I have also tried the drive another computer, where it worked, leading me to believe it is an issue with my main setup - not the drive itself.

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I hope someone can help me, as this is super frustrating.

Method 1: Run the hardware device troubleshooter and check if it helps.
Follow the below steps:

1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
2. Select Troubleshooting.
3. Select View all on the top left corner.
4. Click on Hardware and Devices.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 2:
I suggest you to uninstall the DVD/CD-ROM driver from the Device Manager and check.
Follow the steps to uninstall the driver.

1. Right click on Start button and click on Device Manager.
2. Search for DVD/CD-ROM driver and expand it.
3. Right click the device, and click Uninstall.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Right click your computer name in Device Manager and click Scan for hardware changes. Device manager scans your system and automatically reinstalls your device.

If the issue still persists then, I would recommend you to download and install the latest DVD/CD-ROM driver in compatibility mode from the manufacturer and check if it works.

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 3:
I suggest you to start the Shell Hardware detection service and check if it helps.
Follow the below steps:

1. Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.
2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.
3. In the Services Window, look for Shell Hardware detection service and Stop it.
4. Restart the computer and Start the Shell Hardware detection service and set it to Automatic.
5. Restart the computer and check if it works.
