Hi guys, i got external HD problem here and id like to fix it by myself if possible without spending $ on local shop.
Well, it started out my external WD HD cannot be turned on, after that, i ask the shop to open the enclosure and to plug it using sata cable, it is detected, but it shown as un allocated 2TB, which i believe the data is still safe.

He said that my choice is to recover the data and move it to another drive, is this true?
Could anyone give pointers how to do this?

Hey, aslong as you're not actually writing to the disk, but recovering the partition, you should be okay following that link.

Yes you will need to read the data from your external hard drive but write any recovered data to a different one.. I just ment don't try to recover the data and have it written to your external hard drive as it could overwrite data that hasn't been recovered yet. After you recover all the data and have it safely on a different drive then you can try making new partitions on your external hard drive and put the data back on it ( kinda iffy check for SMART errors and do a disk check first).
