WINDOWS 10 22H2
ASUS SLIM DVD BURNER USB EXTERNAL-CAN'T FIND MODEL NUMBER
Hey y'all; it's been a while.
About a year ago I purchased Asus DVD player/burner and it has worked great. It's been 2 months since I've used it and last night, I popped in a disc, the power light came on and I could clearly hear the disc spinning up - but no play.
Here is what I've tried so far.
Windows 10 22H2 is updated
Windows troubleshooters were useless.
Using a different usb port and rebooting didn't help.
I right-clicked C: drive in My PC and under Tools I checked the C: drive for file system errors and that scan came back clean.
I see that the player is not present in My PC and in the device manager, under 'view', I hit 'show hidden devices' and can't find my player. Then i noticed that device manager doesn't even have an optical drives or DVD/CD-ROM section in the listing (I had hoped to find it there and uninstall the player).
While in device manager, I uninstalled both entries under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, rebooted and that didn't help.
There are no yellow triangle/exclamation marks anywhere under any category.
I was hopeful after running sfc \scannow because it said that it did in fact find and repair some corrupted system files - but they must have been unrelated to my issue. DVD player still not being recognized.
I read about some registry trick but I get nervous fooling around in there.
I am not interested in re-installing or resetting windows and I haven't done a backup in ages. Also do not have a restore point to try.
A friend is chomping at the bit to buy me a new DVD player but I said no - thinking his new one would also not be detected - is that right?
Would someone please tell me what's happening and help me get this thing running? If I had another PC on hand I'd hook it up. The player does seem to function but IDK. You guys have come through for me so many times in the past so I'm counting on you guys solving this one.
Thanks in advance
Disk Management did not show my dvd drive either
Imgur ain't free no more - i'd register but they want my cell phone number - that ain't happening, sorry.
