Question External DVD drive problems

I have an old Dell Optiplex 9020 desktop which works perfectly except for the dvd drive. I have purchased two different external DVD drives and neither one was recognized by my PC. The USB port works because I use it for other devices.
The DVD drives I bought were on the cheaper side so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?!
Any recommendations as how to resolve this problem? Please recommend an external DVD drive I can use with my PC.

Maybe your USB-SATA bridge doesn't support ATAPI devices?

Or perhaps your usb ports don't supply enough wattage for the dvd drives. What are their power requirements?

I don't know what my power requirements are but the two dvd drives I tried did seem like they were trying to work but they weren't recognized.
