external gpu for gaming

you are wasting your time ... this is very low bandwith for rx480 , you are lowering 16 lanes into 1 lane bandwidth , 1/16

there are some notebooks that use thunderbolt 3 (4 lanes) for external graphics , and some even come with full 16 lanes box .. and some have 4 lanes ..

but you need to buy the notebook first. and is not worth it they are $2000 , you can buy a desktop and a notebook for $2000.. its just luxury .. buy desktop if you want rx 480

There are no really good solutions other than building a new PC or buying a new "gaming" laptop. Companies have bee trying for years to come out with a good solution but you can try the link below as some has done what your trying to do:
