Upon purchase, I had sadly realized that my hopes of upgrading my laptop were not attainable. I lived with this realization until a couple weeks ago when I learned about EGPUs (External Graphics cards) I am interested in buying an EXP GDC V.8 or V.9 depending on the answers to this forum. I have found a port which I believe to be a pci-e slot, but my WLAN card which happens to be attached to it looks like an M.2 Connection. I am wondering whether or not I should purchase an M.2 A- Key or a PCI-E cable for my egpu.

Let me know what you think

Solution
It should be mini PCIe, but thats just a should.
Any quality PSU would probably be enough, just get something around 500W from a quality brand. Corsair CXm (the grey label) could be nice.
I have 8GB Ram with an Intel i3-6100u and a regular HDD which I plan to upgrade to an SSD. I have my eyes set on an overclocked GTX 1050 which I think wont bottleneck. Speaking of which, what PSU do you recommend?

In my opinion you would be wasting your time. Lower spec laptops tend to do poorly with eGPUs, and even though yours has a somewhat modern processor, it probably wont do great. Considering the specs, you really wouldnt need to spend all that much more to get an entry level desktop with high upgrade potential.

The setup may work now, but you are investing money into a platform with no upgrade path.

Ehh I know that this won’t be a viable solution for long if at all, but I am willing to give it a shot, Do you think that I need an M.2 connection or PCI-E and what should the power of the PSU be?
