I'm pretty new to customizing computers (pretty much anything in-depth), but from what I understand a Graphics card is a PCB with RAM, a CPU, and a BIOS chip. Is there not a way to convert a spare laptop i have into an external GPU for my main laptop?

Thanks in advance for any help.

no this impossible .. unless they are both laptops that support removing reinstall gpu then i would not advise you to try this ..there are gaming laptop that you can remove the gpu and cpu from easily but some have it built in so it can be removed
i suggest you leave the device as it is if its working fine .
if you want a stronger gpu then try and save and get a gaming laptop or build a desktop

Short answer is no.

If you where very very good at hardware level programing, in theory you could pull this off.

In all reality you would end up with something that at best would perform possibly equal to integrated graphics level performance.

Taking a v8 car, cutting the back off and welding a truck bed in the back does not make it have the same abilities as a truck. While yes both vehicles have the same kind of parts, those parts are designed very diferently for different purposes.
