I plugged my 1tb external hard drive I made (bought enclosure and drive separate) into my phone to back up files, I downloaded an app with good reviews that could read and write to a ntfs drive via an otg cable. its called total commander and paragon_UMS. It took awhile to load and stuff,(Changing file system? or somethin) and I could read and write asit said, but when I plug it int any laptop mac or desktop it lags and the drive runs at 100% in task manager(trying to repair?) I went as far as installing linux and using Gpart to try and solve but the same there(even if I put it in the desktop) I know files can easily be read its just getting over the first hurtle.

have you run a checkdisk on it?

about otg, if the phone has that support, the only thing you need is a exfat or a fat 32 partition, ntfs is mostly for windows and android doesn't work with it natively

if the app tried to convert the partition to another type of partition, then not sure what you can do there, probably backup everything via that smartphne and later format that hard disk to ntfs again

otg is meant to be used with usb sticks, 32 or 64 gbs in size
