external hard drive files missing but the space is still occupied

I bought new external hard drive for my laptop due to the old hard drive stuck in windows xp starting up. I connected the old hard drive to hdd enclosure to open and transfer the files. But all my desktop files weren't there but its shows its still used capacity. I see some folder just for hardwares but any of my important pictures, files I couldn't find in any folder. I need help. Thanks

I would suggest you take ownership of the drive in permission settings and see if that helps

I have similar problem EHD Samsung 1TB has about 750 Gb data on it all of a sudden during use now showd no files yet space occupied. How did you fix please ?
