Hi, I am completely useless at this sort of thing so had to join to try and sort this out as im at a loss at what to do now.
I had a 2Tb western digital external hard drive with 1.6Tb of files on it, the connector for the USB lead broke on the board inside the casing so I demolished the old case took the hard drive out and fitted it into a standard non named metal cased enclosure because I could not buy a replacement WD case.
I fitted the HD no problem and it fires up, sees the drive but when i try to open it syas "this disk needs formatting to be used.
I have a full copy of EaseUS data recovery 8.6, I set it searching and it finds the drive and recognises it as a lost partition. I set it searching to recover the partition and it says it needs 4.5 hours to find it but in reality it takes over 24 hours to complete. If i check it say at 755 it says over 3,000 files found but when the sequence completes it says 0% data 0 folders found over 2 partitions
So I am in desperate need now as this is all my old stuff backed on here
thanks

Ok thanks I am trying it now, only 243000 files to search so maybe a while.
there is no encryption on my hard drive whatsoever so i cannot understand why easeUS didnt work

Hi there djmarcopolo,

I would also say that the HDD is most probably encrypted as Nuwan Fernando already suggested. What is the model of the drive. Otherwise, I don't really see why the recovery programs will not recover the partition or even a single file.

Hi the hard drive is a Seagate barracuda 2000gb,. the original western digital case broke wherethe usb lead joins the pcb so i replaced it and now it will not recognise on my PC
i have just run test disk again a few times and it is saying that all information is fine and it can all be seen by test disk if you start looking through files and folders its all there but it still will not open on the PC saying that it needs to be formatted
its says in the warning
" K/: is not accessible
the volume does not contain a recognised file system
please make sure that all required files system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted"

i am pretty sure it was all under a different drive address could this be the problem and I cannot remember the drive letter
Any help please as its appears everything is intact but cannot get into it
thanks
