Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my external HDD. Up until this morning everything was working fine. I was about to load something on my HDD when I plugged it in and went to open it up my entire PC froze. Had to force it to restart after that same thing happened. I can not even right click on the drive in 'This PC' to load properties or anything.

HDTune says I have 2 unstable sectors, everything else is okay.

I have tried running chkdsk, but it just throws an error 0xc0000185.

Currently running another test in HDTune, but its going to take time.

What I was wondering is there anyway to just get the data back, I don't care about the HDD I would just like to "backup" or restore my data somehow. Is there any software that is able to do that?

Thanks in advance :)

Solution
I would clone your drive and run data recovery software against the clone.

HDDSuperClone would be your best bet. It understands how to deal with bad heads or bad media. If the drive has a SATA interface, then remove it from its enclosure and attach to a SATA port inside your computer.

I would stop testing your drive. That will only accelerate its total failure.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to retrieve most of the data with Lazesoft Data Recovery software. Time to get a new external hdd 😀

Thank for help anyways :)
