external monitor's screen is black.

Hi all,

My external monitor connected to a laptop by an HDMI cable is black. The display for the laptop acts like a second monitor works. Mouse goes off screen, and the external is set to be the default display but the external is black. The external works I can put things on it and pull them back with my mouse but the screen is black. I have used the external for a while and changed nothing, it just went black.

I have not updated drivers and run windows 7.

have you tried changing settings in the nvidia control panel? (assuming you have an nvidia gpu) or are you sure the monitor even works?
