Hey guys, I wanted to ask if external hard drives will work if you're using for a newly built desktop pc.

What I'm trying to get at is whether or not a newly built computer (that still needs to install OS) will recognize the USB for a external hard-drive.

The reason why I ask is that I don't use cd's very much and if I can borrow my friends external hard drive to install the OS / Software then i'm pretty much good to go.

Question is, is this do able?

yes you can, i have a old lg gp08nu20, since 2009 iirc, i use it for that

if the bios or uefi can find a usb dvd drive, it wil work just fine

samsung and lg are the best brands in terms of external optical drives

i do like ore lg, for the build quality and performance overall

the one you listed is a dv drive form a laptop on a external enclosure so no idea what brand is the enclosure or the drive itself

i do recommend you more one like this

they do cost more, but you will have that thing for many years, i have mine working for 8 years now and it doesn't show sign of dying soon

consider one like that, they are nice, light and cheap
